Entering a hands-on demo session for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora for the first time, I had braced myself to feel somewhat disoriented. What I hadn’t anticipated was encountering a colossal, vibrant world that, much like my airborne ikran companion, Carol, largely kept its distance from me.
As one of the few open-world titles in Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup, it was only natural to expect a vast map, complete with all the expected features. This included meticulously detailed plant and animal life, lush meadows, dense rainforests, and a variety of remarkable creatures inhabiting this visually captivating first-person shooter. However, as I grappled with my surroundings in this land of abundance, I couldn’t help but worry that developer Massive Entertainment had managed to incorporate every open-world element from the playbook except for the most crucial one.
