Crimson Desert: Everything We Know (And Why I’m Worried)

Crimson Desert is the first properly big open world action adventure of 2026 and in a year that includes GTA and Fable, it’s in good company. But can this long awaited MMO spin-off, originally concieved as a prequel to Black Desert Online, truly hold a candle to the popular open world action adventures that have inspired it? It cribs bits from all over the place, from The Witcher 3 to Breath of the Wild, from Divinity 2 to Assassin’s Creed. It seems so full of familiar gameplay. And yet, nothing like anything we’ve played before, with an inspired button combo combat system and a kitchen sink blend of high fantasy, low fantasy, steampunk, and scifi.

Crimson Desert gameplay looks promising and features are still being revealed, including a GTA V style triple-protagonist system and climbable bosses. For Black Desert Online solo players, Crimson Desert may be a dream come true: all the hallmarks of Pearl Abyss’ signature MMO but without the online component. No PVP! Crimson Desert’s system requirements have changed since they were first announced: originally an RTX SUPER was recommended with a RTX 2080 listed as minimum. Now the sream page lists a GTX 1060 as a minimum. But we won’t truly know until release.
