The new Fable coming in Autumn 2026 is confirmed to have no dog. For many RPG fans that might seem like a dealbreaker. But are Playground Games right to leave Peter Molyneux’s dog in the past? And what does it say about their approach to bringing back this beloved Xbox RPG? Now also confirmed to be on PS5, naturally.
Fable 2’s dog is probably the most beloved canine companion in video games. Even Fallout’s Dogmeat doesn’t inspire as much loyalty as the Fable 2 dog, who can infamously die at the end of the game and only be resurrected via paid DLC. No dog in Fable? No problem: the minimap is back. Dog AI is hard, ok?
