Onimusha used to be essentially Resident Ninja: a series built on the technology and design of Capcom’s flagship series that moved the action away from Zombies in America to Ninjas in Ancient Japan. For its 2026 re-imagining, Way of the Sword, Capcom seems to have decided that Onimusha is a brilliant pre-made setting for their own crack at a soulslike: and we absolutely agree. Onimusha is Capcom’s Tenth Best Selling Franchise which is sort of like being a tenth child in a family of overachievers: you’re never going to be dad’s favourite, no matter how well you do at school. So Onimusha seems neglected next to the siblings that keep Capcom flush with cash: Resident Evil, obviously, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter…. even Dead Rising gets more love than poor Onimusha. Well, never mind, Oni, at least you’re not Dino Crisis.
