Remasters Are Bad Actually

Remasters, remakes, remastered remakes, it seems like games publishers spend most of their time trying to sell us stuff we already bought. And for good reason: making games is expensive, and keeping the lights on by flogging some old rope just makes sense. Also, we all love it. Who doesn’t want Red Dead Redemption in 60fps? Or a new, clean, less janky version of the original Tomb Raider trilogy? Or a Deus Ex remaster – uh, never mind.

But here’s the problem: Oblivion Remastered was one of the best selling games of 2025, and that’s an issue for new games, especially when most of us barely have time to turn the PlayStation on. So 2026 will be, for me, the year of No Remasters or Remakes. That’s my new year’s resolution, and I’m sticking to it. I mean it!

Unless…?
