Sherman of the Pacific

‘This Sherman tank has been frozen in time since its final moments during the battle of Saipan in 1944. After being dropped into the sea by American LSTs, it was expected to drive its way from the ocean to shore. It never made it there, however: the tank stalled or was destroyed by Japanese defenders. Eighty years later, even though the same waters have risen over the former battlefield, this tank serves as a reminder of the lives lost during the brutal Pacific Campaign.
