Game Pass has had another price increase alongside a revamp of its three subscription tiers.
Game Pass Core has now been renamed to Game Pass Essential and offers you basic access to online play and a modest game library, Standard is now Game Pass Premium giving you a much bigger standing library and guaranteed access to first party Xbox games within a year of launch, and the existing Ultimate tier with the full game pass library and day one access to 75+ new games per year including all first party Xbox titles has been beefed up with Ubisoft Plus Classics bundled in alongside the existing EA Play subscription and 1440p cloud gaming.
In Microsoft’s defense, there is a fair bit of added value here – but is it enough? And did anyone ask for this? When the most desirable feature of Game Pass – day one games – is now restricted to the most expensive tier following an eye-watering increase in price, is it time to stop calling it the best deal in gaming… and cancel?
